120 people put in 524 entries into 94 classes
Over 40% of entries were from children
There were 98 Entries in the Cookery section
Needlework/Handicraft and Photography had 50 entries each
Homemade beer only had one entry but the judge said it was an excellent brew
Flower arranging is beginning to wilt with just 7 entries which is a real disappointment to us.
There were 4 new members on the committee for the 2011 Flower Show.
They took on Publicity, the role of Treasurer, Schedule printing, Cup Organisation and the Fruit, Veg and Plant Section. Robert, the new Publicity Officer, came up with the 'Upcycling' theme that ran through the show and secured a wonderful display of Upcycled sculptures by Barry Lewis, who also agreed to open our show.
We were entertained by the Mosaic Singers, Harry B the Wandering Magician, Tom Hunt the Juggler, and the Castle School Steel Band.
Lord Mayor Geoff Gallop was the 500th visitor to the show (the first time we have used a visitor counter), and he presented all the trophies.
The aim of the show is to be a community event, raising money for the upkeep of the Village Hall. Several people have commented that 'the show had a lovely feel to it'. It certainly brought the villagers together and raised a healthy £1,200.
